Coach Garrett Young

Varsity Head Coach

Coach Young is excited to enter his first season as Head Coach of the Mustangs, coming with experience on the court, and in the classroom as an educator.While in high school, he was a four-year varsity player, two-time captain, and an MVP recipient As a four-time Sunset-League All-Academic Team member, he passes this focus on academics to his players. He competed on the AAU circuit with Paul Pierce’s The Truth and also played on the development team at Vanguard University, competing against community college programs. While in school, he began coaching local youth basketball camps. As a coach, he emphasizes three core tenets: Hard Work, Respect, & Communication. Coach Young believes that mastery of these skills on the court translates directly to success in all aspects of a student's life. In addition to coaching, he is also a music teacher at Costa Mesa Middle/High School, running the guitar & orchestra programs. As a musician his experience ranges from indie shows at local coffee shops to grand performances in Carnegie Hall.

Dj Ross

Varsity Asst. Coach

DJ Ross is in his first year as the Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach. Though new to the coaching staff, DJ brings years of experience working with students and youth, having served in educational and ministry settings since graduating high school. A multi-sport athlete himself, DJ competed in football, basketball, and baseball throughout high school before choosing to focus on his professional calling rather than pursue collegiate athletics.Off the court, DJ serves full-time as the Worship Director at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in Fountain Valley, California. His passion for coaching stems from a desire to help young men grow not only as athletes, but as people—instilling the values of hard work, dedication, discipline, and integrity.DJ is married to his wife, Sofia, and together they have a one-year-old son, Wesley.

Su joins the coaching staff as a first-time high school coach, bringing a wealth of experience as a seasoned high school official across multiple sports. His extensive background as a varsity basketball official provides him with a deep understanding of game rules, strategy, and flow. This expertise enables him to guide our athletes with precision and helps position the team for continued success.

Coach Jason Barfield

Freshman Head Coach

With a decade of experience, Coach Jason (J Bars) is a true pillar of the Mustangs athletic program, bringing a wealth of expertise and a winning tradition to our student-athletes. A native of Los Angeles, California, Coach Jason brings a deep connection to the Southern California community. Attending Littlerock High school and Glendale College. Outside of coaching, he maintains a professional license as a barber, reflecting his commitment to precision and craft both on and off the court. With a remarkable tenure spanning 10 years at Costa Mesa High School, demonstrating incredible versatility Coach Jason coaches three distinct sports at Costa Mesa including Basketball, Cheerleading and Football This broad experience has cultivated an extraordinary record of success, contributing to 7 State Championships and 3 National Championships. In his first year as a Girls Varsity Head Basketball Coach, Coach Jason immediately demonstrated his impact, leading the team to an impressive 11-10 overall record, securing a 3rd place league finish, and earning a highly coveted playoff appearance. Currently in his 4th year as the Frosh/Soph Head Coach for basketball Coach Jason is dedicated to developing the foundation of our program.
